Almost has that generic sound..

Part of me hears a really generic sound in this, but the other part of me still enjoys it. Your author comments made me laugh a lot there. If I were an ass I would probably just give you less points for that alone, lmao! You definitely aren't on top in the newgrounds audio portal my friend. With more submissions and a lot more variety you might be able to!

Like I said before, it kind of has that generic sound to it. I would suggest adding some sort of vocals to it to mix in some variety. That being said it was a decent song all around. It was of good quality, had decent variety, a good sound all around. I just suggest doing more content wise then the generic sounding trance song if you want to be that great underdog that you talk about.

Thanks Fro, I am very generic. Hope you look at my latest outing. It's much different :3

It's not bad.

The thing is it really has that "recording from the inside of a bucket" type of sound there. It's kind of low quality and really just muffled. It almost sounds like a band was playing from the other side of a wall or something like that.

Other than the poor quality I think you have a pretty decent song here. I wouldn't mind hearing the better quality because I feel it's a song that I would actually enjoy listening to as it wasn't very generic and just seemed like an overall fun song.

Hm, you worked on those lyrics there why not try and find somebody to put them in the song? Ah, probably wouldn't sound right though would it? Anyway, they were a nice read that might help the listener get in the right mindset while listening to the song.

Thx fellow RRCer... much appreciated review and glad you enjoyed it. I slightly agree with your comment about the quality... glad you thought it wasn't bad. I try to make my beats fun and interesting and I'm looking to experiment more with this "genre" a bit. Thank you for listening,

I found the best part to be the ending...

And I don't mean that in a negative light at all. I personally haven't heard a song like this in awhile that actually had a different ending than just the simple fade out or ending abruptly or without warning. You on the other hand added a nice touch with the slow down there. I mean, it wasn't anything too amazing, but small things like that really do add value to a song.

The song itself though wasn't too enjoyable in my eyes. I found it to be of great quality, but too repetitive to really enjoy. In the beginning the song was very repetitive and it was hard to get into. It started to pick up later on, but kept it's repetitive nature to the point where it wasn't very enjoyable.

So in my opinion the song was very well done and had a great quality sound, but it was way to repetitive to be enjoyable or make it something that I would want to listen to again.

Thanks for the great review!

As I said to the guy before you, I want to eventually add lyrics over the whole thing or replace it with the main melody. Other than that, I totally agree with you, the song is quite a bit repetitive, I can't even listen to it more than 2 times myself because it gets on my nerves...

Yeah, I like this.

There will be a day in time when I get back to the sprite animating that I use to do. When I do I can see this being great for a cut scene in an intro or something to do with a night scene. It just shines with RPG night town theme or something similar.

The song really doesn't have too much going on (at least to my untrained ears it doesn't), but it's really good. Not too much going on and just enough in ever part of it. Something that I noticed about it is that it loops perfectly. I've probably listened to it four or five times while writing this review and not once have I noticed where it started over again or where it ended.

So like I usually do... I've taken the flash side of a piece of audio because that's what I know best out of the two categories. This would be an awesome piece to use and I could even see it being used in a professionally done game for a console.

Calamaistr responds:

this track also features as a 'memory kind of thing' playing in the background at the beginning of the track 'sanake's execution'
sorry for the spoiler but it was mentionworthy.

It's too long. :(

I think that this song got quite boring after the first four minutes. Especially the 4-6:30 range as it was the same thing over and over and over and..., etc... The song is great other than that, but sadly it's a big enough detail that it really takes away from song and makes me bored as a listener. By the time I got finished listening to the song the parts that had impressed me and entertained me eventually left my memory leaving the song with this very boring impression.

Like I said though, other then the length it was a good song. It had a great sound to it with a lot of interesting and non-generic sound effects. The song was very upbeat and fun to listen to. In certain parts it almost seemed as I heard a womans voice very quietly in the song. I'm probably just hearing things, but I feel that a women's vocals here would make the song much better than it was already.

Xorberax responds:

You are hearing things, but the frequencies and such do make it sound like there are voices in here.

It could have been a bit better.

You designed it as a loop so I allowed it to play through twice to see how it would sound in some sort of game or movie that needed a looped song. I found that it was very fitting for flash submissions and especially something like a plat-former.

The song itself I felt fell slightly short. It started out awesome and continued to be awesome for quite awhile, but towards one minute and beyond it got slightly repetitive and just felt like it never had that "moment" that it needed. The climax, the uprising, the exciting part, etc...

Overall, a decent loop for a plat-former or similar game, but the song itself fell just a little short in my opinion.

Cimba responds:

Thanks for reviewing

I love the song, but I still love the first lyrics

My names ro
My names bot
Put it together and what do you got

chorus:
I'm a robot, yes I am
I'm a robot, here I am

I'm gonna crush your skull like they do
in that movie terminator 2 'cause

Chorus

When men die we'll still be
livin' our lives like they should be

Never gonna sleep, never gonna eat just
gonna do my job efficiently

Here I am all alive
Oh snap! my battery just died

Chorus really slow

BUT, you did it justice and I don't blame you if you couldn't find room for the the lyrics. I was hoping it didn't get repetitive with the length of the submission and repeating the chorus so many times without a change in lyrics, but the variety that you included in the song got rid of any doubt that I had with that.

Whenever I hear the song I can't get the, "I'm a robot yes I am, I'm a robot here I am" out of my head. I tend to sing it all day. :P Anyway, I loved what you did with the song and I hope that we do good in the competition. Congrats on making another great song guys.

Step responds:

Yeah, your first version of the lyrics were really awesome. Couldn't find any way to implement them without turning it into a rap song though, sorry :(.

Definitely glad you liked the variety, and glad you can't get it out of your head I suppose xD.

Thanks for reviewing :D.

Very good.

While I was listening to this I read through the author comments and if you say you didn't copy this then I believe you didn't, but an unintentional copy is still a copy like it or not. :P Nah, just kidding. I for one know it's impossible to make something not sound like something that has already been made in some for or fashion because it's all been done before. (At least most of it has been anyway)

It has that great opening scene of a big war movie or adventure movie type feeling. One with a lot of action and blood boiling scenes where people are getting attacked. The "epic" sound would have summed that up much better I suppose.

The name... I don't know if "In a Teardrop" is very fitting for something like this, but oh well that really doesn't matter. You've come to know my darker side and listening to anything like this makes me automatically think about a war scene or something similar.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the song. It's something that I would love to see in a flash if at all possible, but it's not something that I would like to animate to because I wouldn't do it enough justice. Keep up the good work guys.

Very true. Probably why every Trance song sounds like the next nowadays. Oh well, not really any way to avoid this problem.

Cool. Thanks for the compliment, we definitely tried to make it sound epic and powerful.

"The name... I don't know if "In a Teardrop" is very fitting for something like this, but oh well that really doesn't matter."

In a Teardrop is supposed to signify so many emotions: anger, sadness, hatred, ambition, etc... all coming from a single teardrop.

Hey at least it's not something generic like 'Epic Battle' :D.

"You've come to know my darker side and listening to anything like this makes me automatically think about a war scene or something similar."

Always war with you xD.

Awesome, thanks for the compliments. Yeah, we'd love our stuff to be used in Flash animations, but the Audio Portal's retarded system eats up all our potential exposure.

Thanks for the review, good luck on your own stuff.

Hmm, very mixed feelings.

I guess we'll start with the vocals. The All Aboard just didn't sound metal at all. In fact it sounded like someone trying to be metal, but that said person didn't have the lung or vocal power to do it. It came out very week and just sounded odd all around. I thought you were trying to be a Pirate or something with the "scream."

The vocals for the rest were very manageable though. They weren't something that I would like to hear in a heavy metal song done professional, but as an amateur/person doing a school project they got the job done. The second blood station express was great, but the first one just needed to be a little louder.

The guitar and all other instruments behind this were all right. I wouldn't mind hearing something a little heavier, but again, they got the job done. The best thing about this song is I can actually see it becoming a real full length song that I could enjoy listening to. Hell, 3 minutes of this with properly sang lyrics would actually be favorited by me.

So yeah, good luck on your project, I feel that the vocals in the beginning kind of took away from the thing as a whole.

Screch responds:

Thank you. Our singer was expelled from school for sexually harassing the vice principal so a full length version would probably be impossible without another one, lol.

I see your first Trance.

Did you happen to make this out of the book titled, "How to make a Trance song that sounds so generic that somebody could close their eyes, click on a random Trance song in the newgrounds audio portal and hear something that almost sounds exactly like it?" Well of course that's not a real book, but if it were one then I would have assumed you used it here. :P

I guess the main thing to get out of that was it sounded like the generic beginner's trance and/or techno song. I personally didn't dislike it, but I didn't really like it as well for the reason that I state above. There just needs to be something new or exciting introduced to this and there just isn't. Of course, I wouldn't expect there to be something new or exciting when it's your first time, but first time or not I have to review it like everything else to be fair.

Anyway, as far as this genre can go, which usually isn't too far, I would consider it mediocre, somewhere around the middle ground, but overall good for someone who was doing it for the first time. I highly recommend adding voices. vocals, different sound effects, perhaps some glitchy things, etc...

Some other things about the song... I felt that the low point was way too quiet even for a low point and went on for too long. Even if you kept that the same the high point wasn't loud and exciting enough to get the effect that you were going for in the spot.

Sorry if you felt that the review was harsh by any means, but I feel that it was a good honest review. If you continue to work on this genre please try to do something new with it, which I know is a lot harder than it sounds, but to be good that's what you have to do.

Good luck in the future and keep working.

BuggMusic responds:

Thank you for the honest review! I admit that this is generic (and it's ironic because I was trying to not be generic :|), I find it very hard to recreate great feelings and builds that the pros do. Obviously adding vocals is a bit difficult right now lol, but maybe in the near future.
