Not bad.

Comments before actual review - It's about time that I get back and review some of the Flash Portal History.

Animation/Graphics - Not the best, but they aren't terrible. The animation itself is kind of rough and not all of the drawings are the best. It just feels like it could have been animated much better and drawn much better.

Story/Content - Not a bad idea for a flash. Pretty original idea. I loved how you made it a bit interactive in the movie so we could choose what we wanted to do. I hope there is more of that in the future episodes.

Audio - Not the best voice acting. The voices weren't bad, but the quality of them were bad so to say. Back ground music and other sound effects again were alright, but not of the best quality.

Overall - A decent flash, which may lack some quality, but is still pretty good at the same time.

Yeah this was more of a test at our first real movie/game, X doesnt like talking much but he came around hehe, anyways thanks for the review.

Not too bad, needs improvement.

Ha, this did make me laugh during some parts. It wasn't all that bad actually. Maybe a few more levels and extra minigames would have made it better. You did a pretty decent job in hiding the first one, which I actually thought was the hardest one of them all for some reason. I guess it had something to do with the blinking light that kept drawing me to that area. Of course I'm sure that's exactly what you wanted that light to do. Good job there. I should have thought it out before I just assumed that was the place for it.

The second place, which was hidden in the corner, was predictable. I hit it with my first click and didn't even think about looking anywhere else for it. The last one was also very easy to find. I guess you should have added more obstacles to it to make it harder because I was only slowed down by the first one and it was less than a minute before I figured it out.

Overall, not too bad. Needs to be much longer, which won't hurt the file size as long as you compress your flash a little bit. Especially the audio is in need for some compressing. Keep up the hard work.

iMate900 responds:

Thanks for the review.

Like you said..

This is only good for people who know what you are talking about. I guess you are terrible at explaining to people who have never touched actionscript or done anything with flash before as you have now proved not only to me last night on AIM when you couldn't tell me what a simple code would look like and on this flash where you really don't explain where and how. You just through a code out there and expect people to understand it. Yet does say advanced when you play it so it is for people who already know what they are talking about. This means I can't take points off because I don't understand the things in it yet. Anyway, if somebody already knew what they were doing with actionscript wouldn't they be able to do this by themselves anyway? Either way, nice set up and animated background. Buttons were easy to click and you had a nice piece of audio playing in the background.

ZiggyZack99 responds:

On AIM, I had no idea what code you needed help with.

Tutorials get big reviews.

Well another one of these. I think this is a good place to end the night reviewing. I reviewed a shitload of your stuff again today.

The BBS - You know I would have fucking loved to see one of these flashes when I first joined Newgrounds. I had no clue what the forums were and the only time that I spent on Newgrounds was watching and reviewing movies/games. If I would have saw one of these flashes than perhaps I would have well over 10,000 posts by now. D:

General - The most popular? Yeah I guess you are right for the most part. I of course don't like the general as much because it's full of a lot of idiots. I like to stay in other forums. You might want to update this or maybe not..., but they don't talk about video games there anymore. :D

Where Is/How To Forums - By far my favorite forum there is. I'm all about the stats like you already know and this place has all of the lists for the top members statistically. I still say I'm going to be the first audio reviewer to 10,000 reviews. >:] Alright, probably not, but I'm going to be up there somewhere.

Flash Forum - A lot of this stuff is a little outdated now isn't it? I think it's 3.5 BA, but perhaps I'm wrong. It's not your fault though that the flash is older. I use to visit the flash forums more frequently. As soon as I get a computer that has a working mic. I will probably visit it more often looking for flash artists who need voice actors and/or writers.

Politics - Meh, it's kind of boring there in my opinion. I haven't really seen a good debate there... ever :(

Programming Forums - Happens to be the only forum that I haven't ever posted in. I've also made a topic in all of the forums except for this one and the flash forum.

Clubs and Crews Forums - This is the forum that I remember looking at a little before any other forum and I didn't like it because the threads were too long. It's now a great place. Even though my once alive ghost club is dead. :( No pun intended.

Audio Forums - A nice place for voice actors to go to would be a nice thing to add here.

Art - I got my first topic delete here for posting a photoshopped picture. D: Perhaps mention something like the pictures can be bigger here?

NG News - lul, plain and simple.

Network News - Why do we even have this? One topic is there and it's completely dead. It needs to be used more often or gotten rid of.

P-Bot's Postings - Hmm have you ever noticed that a lot of nubs post here for the first time? It's like there way to ease into the forums.

Trolls and Flamers - You gave the best advice possible here. Just completely ignore them.
Mods - Lol they don't always keep things fun.. not some of them at least.. Anyway also lol at this list being outdated too.

Bans - The only thing I can think of is give more examples or perhaps a link to the forum rules here?

Wrapping it up - That's what she said. =P I think the biggest thing about this flash is that it needs a link to the rules. Something that isn't read very often by new users.

Sispri responds:

Thank you soooo much for this review omgomgomg!!! I am going to individually respond to all your reviews now.

For starters, yeah the character was shaky and the gameplay laggy. But you gotta cut me some slack on the scripting of the .clipEvents. The music WAS indeed superior and Andrew W.K. is without doubt awesome. But I digress as this was a mere BETA test. In the future I hope to release even more unique stuff like this. Perhaps this time with a lovable character such as a talking pumpkin.

I really hope this game gets sponsored. I could really use some money for gas. Otherwise I'll have to get a job and there goes my right-side creativity. Baw well.
Thanks again though. I will continue to improve with my journey in the wonderful world of Flash.

Nice submission = long review.

I loved this submission man. This was probably one of your better submissions. I really liked the Tank animation in the background and the fact that the background was moving. It helped get rid of the boring repetitive backgrounds. You had a lot of sections so I'm going to review each section.

How to write a review - I loved that you pointed out to people to actually right a review by telling them what was good, what was bad, and telling them how and what they could improve on instead of using the generic youtube comment of "it was good". You added a nice section of things that they should review when reviewing a submission. I usually review plot, graphics, concept, style of animation, audio, and story. Something that I really don't review is effort, but I do put it in consideration when choosing my score.

What not to do - Lol, the picture wasn't of the best quality, but the example review that you gave was pretty funny. Good job on warning them that a ban would be coming in the case of a review like this. I like the fact that you put in that you are allowed to say that a submission was gay or dumb, but it isn't abusive as long as you give them constructive criticism. I think this is something a lot of people need to learn.

Telling the difference between an abusive review and a non-abusive review - Hm, as the review you showed wasn't the most helpful, it wasn't anywhere near being abusive. I like how you had the choice of clicking the picture to make it bigger. The second review was obviously abusive. =P

Why was the second one abusive? - Again, this is information that a lot of people on Newgrounds don't understand. They think just because they helped out a little that the review isn't abusive.

How to get the Deity Whistle - A nice addition to the flash. I thought it was going to be about how you should write reviews, but you covered a lot in this.

Further help on reviews - Lol, ask you? Didn't you come to me a lot for help in the review system? Nice that you added some mod names, but you should have added more.

Why won't this work?

It sounds like a really good idea, but I just can't get it to work right for some reason. I would love to see it actually work though. =P Is it something wrong with my computer or is it now something wrong with the game because it looks like it has worked for somebody else before. D: I guess that's why I can't give it a low review because I'm not sure if it is just my computer or what. Oh well.

ZiggyZack99 responds:

It's your computer. Works with Firefox 3.

You know it's not that bad for a early game.

Animation/Graphics - I didn't think this was bad drawing wise. I know it's not the hardest thing to draw a smiley face. :) See I just did one there. Anyway, yeah nothing really wrong with the drawing at all. A couple of things that were kind of rough, but things that can easily be cleaned up. Looks like you weren't the most worried about how things looked because you were just testing out a new game and everything.

Story/Content - Just get to the other side without dying. Of course like you said this was just a test of your game skills and actionscript skills. The jumping was a little off, but that wouldn't be that bad with perhaps a bigger screen where you could jump over several different things and/or had moving enemies that came after you and stuff. Or perhaps just a ceiling to keep you down. =P I played through to win the first time and then I played through to lose the second time. Of course the play again button was a must and both endings were pretty good. The introduction was good the way you reminded people that it was just a test.

Audio - A nice song in my opinion. Not only did it go well with the game play itself, but it also went well with the ending credits and everything. Good choice here.

Overall - You probably have the potential to make a pretty high scoring simple game like this.

ZiggyZack99 responds:

Thanks.

Needs a lot of work to become good.

Animation/Graphics - Not bad, but still needs a bit of work. The more you work with your drawing skills and animating skills the better your graphics will turn out. Kind of rough as of now, but still not that bad. The animation was pretty smooth as there barely was any. That's another thing, perhaps add more actual animation like things in the background. Moving clouds, bats, lightning, etc.. You know the details that really make flash animations good.

Story/Content - Not a bad Halloween type game. The idea is pretty good, but it just need more. It needs more levels, more pumpkins, etc.. maybe power-ups could be introduced such as a power-up like Slow Motion, where all of the pumpkins/cats move slowly for a slight second. More levels of course. I was thinking something around ten levels would be good for a game like this. Perhaps have a bonus round where if they get a certain score they can have a level where there is nothing but a bunch of pumpkins that go across the screen like a money round or something like that. Lastly, I think you should add something like ranking depending on what their score was. If someone hits almost all of the pumpkins and barely any cats then it should give them a ranking like "ace sniper" and a small description of exactly what that means. Vice versa if someone can't hit shit or even gets negative numbers add a ranking like "blind pedestrian".

Audio - I recommend adding some simple Halloween background music to it and if you added things in the background like bats, lightning, etc.. add the according sound effects to those new animations. The sounds that you had for the cat and the pumpkins popping were pretty good already. I thought the voice and his lines were pretty amusing and gave a good humor to this flash submission.

Overall - It needs a lot of work, but hopefully you like some of my ideas and you think about applying some of them to your flash. Good luck on your decision. :)

Lord-Of-Lazyness responds:

Yes, I do like some of your ideas. I thank you for your insight and ideas. I will re-work the game when I get some free time. I have no idea when I will release the new patch because it will take it a while to fix and improve. Thanks for the review.

You really are getting better.

Comments before actual review - Wow, I remember the first couple of flashes that you ever made and you showed us on the GS forums. You have greatly improved and it looks like you are getting pretty decent at actionscript? Do you think our madness flash will end up turning out good?

Animation/Graphics - Not good lol. Very rough and poorly drawn. The drawing themselves were very rough, but I'm also talking about the animation itself. Very glitchy and not smooth at all. Again it's a great improvement of things that you have done before, but it still needs to get much better before your flashes start receiving decent scores. When you choose the gun option the gun turns from the well drawn/sprite gun to the badly drawn gun. :( That's not good.

Story/Content - Not bad choices here. The ones that you had were decent and interesting. I think you need about twice as many that you have though. That's all that I can think about here. Add some new weapons and/or situations and that will improve the score of this flash. :)

Audio - A great improvement from the last flash of yours that I had reviewed. The background music was pretty good and you had some good sound effects added in. Unlike the last flash where you had neither.

Overall - The animation is really the only thing holding you back in your animations. Way too rough and it just doesn't run smoothly. Hopefully you can improve on things like that in the future.

Murad136 responds:

Wow - Thanks so much. Those were the days, ey? Yeah our flash is defiantly going to be done, I've started gathering sprites and stuff already. I just need to finish MS5 which is taking me a while. Thanks again, I'll take all your advice. Glad you noticed I have been practising:)

Alright alright...

I always review your work a little bit different than "normal" work so here comes one of those short reviews. First off I was like, "Great more spam from this guy.." Then I clicked the play button and thought to myself, "Predictable". Same shitty animation, same shitty content, same shitty audio. (Even though the audio wasn't as bad as any of the other content) So anyway.. You got me here. You made me laugh and for that you get some points out of the review from me. The Zylophome line was pretty funny shit, but I do think that making a series out of this would make the jokes less and less funny every time and make this predictable and boring. Props for getting me to laugh though.

Yeah, I only plan to make 2 more after this. I mean it'll get as boring as Mario Party. Amirite?
