A month out from the big competition!

Posted by Fro - September 15th, 2022

Hi,

My name is Fro.

My job pick thing up.

I'm just about a month away from the Strongman Corporation National Championship. Here are the events: (All in pounds)

Event 1: Axle Bar Clean and Press (1 rep max)

If you know what a barbell is, just imagine a bar with no knurling (grip) and twice as thick. It's virtually the size of a car axle. The event is to pick it up and press it to a locked out position above your head.

My weight class starts at 235 pounds and then each attempt gets 20 pounds heavier. We can jump in at any time. I will be jumping in right at the 235.

As soon as you fail an attempt (within the time limit) you no longer continue. I've hit 275 in training and that is my real goal come competition day. 295 is a possibility though!

Event 2: Farmers Carry

There will be two group of farmer carry implements. The first group will be 260 pounds per hand (520 total pounds) and the 2nd group will be 290 pounds per hand. (580 total pounds) The event is to pick, walk 40 feet with the first group. Turn around and walk the 40 feet back. Then repeat with the second group.

I'll be able to carry the 260 come comp day, but I most likely won't be able to finish the walk with 290 within the time limit. I'll give it hell though and try my best!

Event 3: Bag carry to sled drag

Carry a 265 pound sandbag to a sled 40 feet away, run back 40 feet. Pick up a 287 pound bag and carry to the sled 40 feet away. Drag the sled back 40 feet.

I should be able to do this event just fine.

Event 4: Deadlift medley

Farmer handles dead 290 each hand (580 total pounds) then immediately jump to a 330 each hand (660 total pounds), into an axle deadlift of 615 pounds for as many reps as possible in the remaining time.

I'll get the 290 just fine, should be able to do the 330 by then (660 will be a huge deadlift!), but I don't believe I'll be able to complete any reps of the 615 on the axle. I'll give it a good pull and effort, but if it's not moving I won't waste too much energy on it)

Event 5: Sandbag throw over shoulder

5 bags in a series. Pick them up from the ground and find a way to work them up your body and drop them off of the back of your shoulder.

220, 242, 265, 287, 309

I should get the first 3 bags, but the next two will be a lot of work. We will see come comp day!

Event 6: Sled pull with a rope

The weight is a mystery, I just know it will be heavy. He will be sitting on the ground with our feet against a board, pulling the sled 80 feet to the finish line.

This whole trip across the country is costing me about $3,000. I've opened up a ko-fi to help offset some of the costs and also have opened up a coaching/training service by me. $30 a month or reach out and learn how to get the services for $10 a week. If you'd like to help any other way please reach out. I can accept paypal donations, venmo, etc.., etc..
