Hm, I don't have any songs, but you can check out a flash or two if you want. :P

Yeah, I haven't heard the original so I can't really compare it or anything of the sort, but it does sound pretty good all around. I guess it just wasn't what I was expecting in this case. The rain and thunder sound effect in the beginning, which sounded great, just set me up for something that I thought was going to be a bit more dark or hopeless for some reason.

Even though the song had a lot of variety and never got repetitive or anything of that sort, I still found it to be kind of bland and empty. I don't really know what you could have done to not make it feel like this, but it's the impression that I got from it.

I usual tend to enjoy classical music very much, but this wasn't exactly my cup of tea this time.

Why would you ever want to purposely make a depressing song. Sure I understand if it comes out depressing because of current emotions, but why would anyone purposely make one?

Anyways, if you had heard the original, you would of known what to expect coming into this. In the game, when you play the song, it rains, and storms. Thus the storms.

Sorry that you found it bland, but thanks for the review anyways!

I think I have a bit of a different view on this song. He couldn't quite put a meaning on it, but I have a way that I can interrupt to myself. (Even if it's not what you wanted it to mean)

To me it seems like it's about a person who has problems, who has trouble, who has conflict, etc..., but instead of getting excited and letting his emotions take over he has accepted in his life that there is going to be change and because he has accepted it he can confront every situation in his life and enjoy the challenge and the many fun things along the way.

Me seeing it like that though I wouldn't mind perhaps seeing sounds that would represent a little bit of conflict in the beginning of the song and then kind of get away with it to represent happiness. (But again, that's just how I thought about this song and it might not be where you were going with it)

The song itself sounds good, very happy. I actually enjoyed the fade at the end of the song. I feel that you can only make a fade sound good on certain songs and this was one of them.

sumguy720 responds:

Awesome! I usually end my songs in fades-- and I don't often like it, but this is a case in which I must agree with you.
And it's a lot like your second paragraph, but I'm not always able to overcome all the complex feelings washing over me, but when I can-- and I realize that I have-- that's when I like to write music. Hell, sometimes the music helps me get there. In this case I had already made it past the stage of resolution, which is why I think there's no dissonance, and that probably makes this slightly less meaningful than it could have been. Some of my other stuff does resolve in-song though, which I hope to get back to later (even though that means I probably have to run into more life problems first :P )
Thanks for the review, I know exactly what you are talking about, and I'll see if I can't make some stuff with resolving conflict as opposed to simple resolution.

As a heavy metal fan I would say, meh not too good. I guess when I think of heavy metal I think of something that makes me want to get up and punch the nearest person and this... didn't sound like that lol. I think it was the artificial sounding guitars. It's just hard to get that brutal metal sound when the guitar isn't real.

Now not even considering the genre the song itself was pretty cool. Quick pace and fun to listen to. Almost a happy type of song, which again is the opposite of what I think about when thinking about heavy metal songs.

So good song overall, but as a heavy metal fan I didn't really like it as a heavy metal song. (if that makes sense)

Step responds:

Thank you for the review :). I never really listened to Heavy Metal much, usually I just listen to a bit of rock, which is probably why it doesn't give out that 'I wanna punch the nearest person' feeling :P. The guitars were from soundfonts, so I can't imagine them sounding any good, but they were the best guitars I had. The rest sounded like static :\... Anyway, glad you liked it as a song, and thanks for the tips.

I'm just not digging your stuff man. Not saying that your music is bad, but it just clashes with what I enjoy I guess. I thought the song really dragged on too long, but again makes for amazing ambient music if you can find something that needs 7 minutes of ambient music. It really could have ended after 3 minutes lol. I might have enjoyed it a bit better if it did.

The introduction was my favorite part though as it had this creepy feeling to it and almost reminded me of something such as Silent Hill or anything else that's unexplainable, scary, crazy, and/or creepy.

Monkeydelic responds:

i defineatly understand, it's very mood specific music, and it's not for everyone.
I'll also make the song alittle shorter in the future.

Thanks for the review :)

I disagree slightly with the last reviewer who said the first one was better than this as I thought this one was slightly better than your first one.

I think it was better as the other had a lot of low points or parts that just were kind of quiet and boring, but this one seemed more complete and had a little bit more variety in it. Yes it is a tad bit long I think and shortening it might even help it become slightly better.

The quality isn't really a problem just like the last one, but is still noticeable a little bit. I feel that this could be used in a real life video showing a very green forest and closeups of some pine trees with other wildlife being around.

Monkeydelic responds:

Thanks :)

I've always wanted to add more parts to this song, so it might get even longer :P
But i promise i'll try to keep it interesting.

Thanks for the review :)

I didn't really get into this song and personally didn't like it that much. First off it wasn't really wasn't something that I would listen to (of course I can't take points away for that though), but I also thought that it just kind of kept going on and on and nothing really ever happened to make the song a good song. Kind of bland in my opinion.

It would probably make a great song for a numerous amount of games though. I think of something like a puzzle game or some sort of game where you have to take turns or something such as that.

i think i see what you like in a song, hmmm....After reading your review i seems that you'd rather a song have a stand out core that the song is based around rather then multiple cores or melodies being mixed together.

A very simple, but yet very effective song. It has a very nice old fashion RPG style feel to it that you would expect in an RPG game with Knights and other old fashion type stuff. I didn't hear any crackle or anything so it must not be bad enough to take anything away from the song.

Like I said before it was very simple, but you did a good job in not making it boring or anything of the sort as it did sound pretty good. Towards the end it started to pick up a little bit and perhaps it would have been a little bit better if it picked up more towards the middle of the song?

loansindi responds:

Thanks for the review.

Yeah, it picks up towards the end because that's as far as I've gotten so far. I have trouble making things a reasonable length because I tend to get distracted or lose interest in the project.

Yeah, the mic doesn't take too much away from the submission, but you can tell a bit that it isn't the best of quality. Does sound good being recorded on a simple webcam mic though.

The song itself starts off very good, but I get the impression that it gets a tad bit too repetitive and it has many low points where not much is going on and it gets just a tad bit boring because of it.

It would probably be useful for something such as an introduction to a movie where they are panning through a forest or over some green hills and mountains or something similar to that.

Monkeydelic responds:

Thanks :)

I'll re-record this song, and then i'll add some more elements, firstly forest sounds, and synth sounds, and so on, so hopefully that takes care of that problem:)

Thanks for review:)

This is by far one of your best submissions that I have listened to. I usually rate your submissions somewhere around a 5 to a 7 or so right? Well this one was pretty cool and very fast paced. It was a fun song to listen to and it never really died down while never getting too repetitive or anything of the sort.

It also had some pretty cool sound effects. I like the high pitch laser type sound more towards the end of the song, but it can be harmful to your ears if you have the song turned up loud. :P

I see this with a very video game type of feeling to it as well. Sounds to me like it could be something that could be used in not only the credits of a submission, but even during the gameplay or maybe a video within the game itself.

Box-Killa responds:

yup :D yup yup.

Yup most of my songs are just fillers for good songs that i make :D

HeHe, if it ruins people ears.... meh.

yup vg music all teh way!

good night!

Kind of making up my own vision of what I visualized when I listened to this song here. I almost got a feeling that someone was creating a robot or that a group of people, presumably scientists were creating some sort of dark and mysterious creature. The song as a whole has a very dark and mysterious sound to it, which fits very well with your song.

I also maybe saw a slow moving robot or machine that was heading towards a society or civilization about to slowly destroy it as it moved on and nothing really being able to stop it. Of course what you wrote is what it was for and makes total if not better sense then what I envisioned, but we all see different things. :P

There were a lot of cool sound effects in this submission and the overall sound of it gives it a very good visual to the listener. A song that would be fit for a flash submission or game, but is also pretty cool to just listen to by itself.

PuffballsUnited responds:

Thanks! I think it's cool that it fits as a standalone song and a song for a video game! :D
