A game that I never played before so I haven't heard the original and I'm too lazy to do a quick search to hear the original online. My girlfriend automatically knew what it was though listening to it so it must sound a lot like the original one. It sounds very professional also so good job if you did this all by yourself. If you just took the original song and remixed it... well.. I'm pretty sure that's against the rules. :P

An all around enjoyable song to listen to though. Very upbeat and fun all around. Would be great for any Mario like flash game (duh), but also many other types of flash games or even movies.

This tune is...timeless I guess you could say. ANYBODY that has ever played the original Dr. Mario will recognize this piece. Having said that I'll admit I stuck fairly close to the original because, in essence, whats the point of a remix if you completely rip apart what made the original good in the first place? The 8-bit sounds and nostalgia you feel when you listen to this piece (if you have played the game) is what helps keep its flavor. The remix simply capitalizes on that fact and brings in another level, one that they may not have been able to bring about waaaay back in the day.

What I am trying to say is that when I remix something it is always a balancing act between keeping the texture of the original (and its flavor) while sprinkling my own spices onto it to make it something new.

Mix:
3 Cups Original Flavoring [Right outta the box!]
1 Cup Crushed Texture
1/2 Cup Well-mixed samples
2 Teaspoons Originality
2 Teaspoons Secret Spice
1 Teaspoon Sledgehammer to the computer for fking up and not letting me save
1/2 Teaspoon Timing
and a heaping amount of enjoyment.

That, my friend, is what creates a good piece...yes...including the sledgehammer. Creates a nice KICK you see ^^.

Overall I understand what you are saying. As for the "If you just took the original song and remixed it...well...I'm pretty sure that's against the rules. :P" I'll admit I do occasionally rip a track or two that is simply too complicated to easy place down or one I want to keep exactly as is but this is mine. I highly doubt you're going to find percussion like what you hear in this piece...though you might hear similar percussion in the future hehe.

Not exactly a great response I know..but I am tired and I don't like to keep reviews waiting.

Thanks though, I'll give a shout when I get another one on stage.

I'm highly offended by the last review. I had never played Chrono Trigger either, but I do live in a cave and I don't see what the problem is with that. Also, you can't delete this one now as you have requested a review for it in the Review Request Club and it would be very rude to all of the members if they lost a review. :P

Yes, I've never played this game, but what I can tell from the song is that it would be a great song for anything that has a RPG feel to it. Something like Final Fantasy or other related RPG where there is the happy town or village sound that you here after fighting the random monsters outside.

Great song all around as it sounds great and there really isn't much for me to critique if anything at all so my review is just one of praise. Good job.

Cosmos8942 responds:

I agree, I lived in a cave and it was quite lovely >:[, DEATH TO SS! Jk jk, but seriously, lets continue :3.

I won't be deleting this one...period. What I meant was that the original remix of this piece was deleted and I had to restart from an older copy I had...might've been a good thing come to think of it o.o.

The original is a very well-done 'can't-get-it-out-of-your-head' type of piece that really flowed with the game and released the mood just a tiny bit more. Quite the classic I should say. Overall I made this song because I wanted a little more of a challenge, take an already great piece and make it better...did I succeed, well who knows? Either way I really enjoyed this one and I might go back and do more from the game to see if I can top it.

Thanks alot for the review :)

A very good song all around. I really can't think of anything to critique it as I really don't know much about music, but from someone who casually listens to music I can say that it really sounded good.

Right from the beginning of the song it started of really quick and was fun to listen to. It maintained it's fast paced, fun nature, all the way through the entire song, making it fun to listen to the entire way through.

The length of the song was great and it never really got too repetitive or boring. The song itself could be used for many different situations in a flash game or movie whether it be in the introduction, credits, or in the submission itself.

Thanks :D

Well I guess I have the same complaints as the other people had. The transitions were a bit rough and that's coming from someone that really doesn't know much about music, which means they were a bit obvious in this submission. :P

The song itself is pretty good though. It really reminds me of something where you would see a character discovering a wonderful world that he has never seen before and there isn't any limits on what he can do. It kind of goes with the title of the song as well.

Yep, most people have been giving me the same advice, so I know which parts aren't working.

I love the beginning as it sounds like something counting down to the beginning of a race, which goes along perfect with the song title. Hm, what to review though? You've already stated that you knew the ending was a bit abrupt, that the middle of the song gets a bit repetitive, etc...

I think those two were the biggest "problems" of the song and that you should be able to fix them with a few edits here and there. The song itself is rather good though and doesn't exactly have the incomplete feel as it feels much more complete then most songs that people already consider complete.

So I would say just go with the changes that you planned on and you'll have a pretty good song here!

Gotcha ^__^. It's good to know that all in all it isn't bad.

I'll give it the final touches soon.

Thanks Fro!

Very interesting sound to this! The choir gave it a very interesting sound and you are pretty good with music so the two together ended up in a pretty good result.

I would like to see the actual lyrics in this submission though. I think that's really the only way you could improve the submission at hand other then I also noticed a couple of volume issues. Sometimes the volume seemed good and at other times it sounded too quiet, etc...

Pretty good though.

I think it is being performed at the next recital so I will definitely have an actual recording soon. :) thank you for the review though

I'm going to go right ahead and continue with the trend here and state that it sounds like it could basically be finished. I really don't know what else you could do with this without making it sound too busy and I personally wouldn't want it to get much longer if any longer at all as it could get a bit overdone after awhile.

If anything this could be shortened a bit. I think perhaps in the beginning you could have gotten quite of few seconds out of there. Almost even an entire minute off of the introduction and this song would sound much better already as the beginning was way too drawn out.

~ Review Request Club ~

Kalapsia responds:

thanks, taking out the minute would lose the atmosphere that I'm going for, although a few seconds cut wouldn't hurt.

It starts off and right away I can tell that it is going to be a pretty good song all around. The drums really helped the song sound good and the song was great throughout almost the entire thing. The odd noise that you used towards the end of the song though... I didn't quite enjoy that. I thought it was very out of place and just too weird for the song at hand.

Where you put it was a great spot, but the sound itself just didn't sound that good in my opinion. Perhaps just a bit of a guitar solo their instead would have been a bit better instead of the sound effect used. :P (Don't know what it was lol)

~ Review Request Club ~

GronmonSE responds:

It -was- a guitar solo haha.

Thanks for the review.

Hm, I don't have any songs, but you can check out a flash or two if you want. :P

Yeah, I haven't heard the original so I can't really compare it or anything of the sort, but it does sound pretty good all around. I guess it just wasn't what I was expecting in this case. The rain and thunder sound effect in the beginning, which sounded great, just set me up for something that I thought was going to be a bit more dark or hopeless for some reason.

Even though the song had a lot of variety and never got repetitive or anything of that sort, I still found it to be kind of bland and empty. I don't really know what you could have done to not make it feel like this, but it's the impression that I got from it.

I usual tend to enjoy classical music very much, but this wasn't exactly my cup of tea this time.

Lublub194 responds:

Why would you ever want to purposely make a depressing song. Sure I understand if it comes out depressing because of current emotions, but why would anyone purposely make one?

Anyways, if you had heard the original, you would of known what to expect coming into this. In the game, when you play the song, it rains, and storms. Thus the storms.

Sorry that you found it bland, but thanks for the review anyways!

I think I have a bit of a different view on this song. He couldn't quite put a meaning on it, but I have a way that I can interrupt to myself. (Even if it's not what you wanted it to mean)

To me it seems like it's about a person who has problems, who has trouble, who has conflict, etc..., but instead of getting excited and letting his emotions take over he has accepted in his life that there is going to be change and because he has accepted it he can confront every situation in his life and enjoy the challenge and the many fun things along the way.

Me seeing it like that though I wouldn't mind perhaps seeing sounds that would represent a little bit of conflict in the beginning of the song and then kind of get away with it to represent happiness. (But again, that's just how I thought about this song and it might not be where you were going with it)

The song itself sounds good, very happy. I actually enjoyed the fade at the end of the song. I feel that you can only make a fade sound good on certain songs and this was one of them.

~ Review Request Club ~

sumguy720 responds:

Awesome! I usually end my songs in fades-- and I don't often like it, but this is a case in which I must agree with you.
And it's a lot like your second paragraph, but I'm not always able to overcome all the complex feelings washing over me, but when I can-- and I realize that I have-- that's when I like to write music. Hell, sometimes the music helps me get there. In this case I had already made it past the stage of resolution, which is why I think there's no dissonance, and that probably makes this slightly less meaningful than it could have been. Some of my other stuff does resolve in-song though, which I hope to get back to later (even though that means I probably have to run into more life problems first :P )
Thanks for the review, I know exactly what you are talking about, and I'll see if I can't make some stuff with resolving conflict as opposed to simple resolution.
